September 10-14

This week the fourth grade:

Typing paragraphs about our weekend

• Practiced reading comprehension strategies: predicting, questioning, and visualizing
• Identified subjects and predicates in their own writing sample
• Measured the volume of liquids using a graduated cylinder
• Measured the mass of solids using a balance scale
• Contrasted the highlands and lowlands of the of the southeast region
• Took a test over multiplication and division

Next week students will:

• Continue practicing reading comprehension strategies
• Choose their first book club novel
• Investigate mixtures and solutions
• Identify compound subjects and predicates
• Multiply numbers by 10 and 100
• Round numbers to estimate products before multiplying
• Study landmarks of the southeast region

Scholastic Book Club Information:

• Our first quarter book club discussions will be from 12:30-1:00 on 9/28, 10/5, and 10/12. 
• Our second quarter book club dates are 11/30, 12/7, and 12/14. 
• If you are interested in volunteering for either of these book club sessions mark your calender for a parent training on Tuesday, September 18th from 3:45-4:30 in Mrs. Cowan's room.
