Week of 3/31-4/4

This week the fourth grade:

• Finished reading Cricket in Times Square (Mrs. Cowan's Class) 
• Continued to work with electricity
• Wrapped up the pronouns unit
• Compared and ordered fractions
• Wrote a speech about their state

Next week the fourth grade:

• Learn and practice strategies for taking a  timed reading test
• Add and subtract fractions
• Rehearse and memorize  state fair speeches
• Wrap up the electricity unit
• Meet with buddies

We are looking for volunteers to lead our final book club session.  Book club meetings are from 12:30-1:00 on the 25th, 2nd, and the 9th.  Please send a note to Mrs. Cowan if you can lead a group!



 Upcoming dates:

• 4/3- Math Club, 7:30 am Mrs. Cowan's room
• 4/4- Fourth Grade States Fair: Presentations start at 10:00, followed by a luncheon
• 4/10- Jefferson City, students need to be at school between 7:00-7:10, but leaves at 7:15!
• 4/14-4/17- ERB Standardized Testing Dates 
• 4/18- No School, Good Friday
• 4/24- Spring Showcase at 7:00
• 4/25, 5/2, and 5/9- Fourth quarter book club dates
• 4/30- Grandparents Day 
• 5/2- ALL STUDENTS MUST BRING A LUNCH FROM HOME, the cafeteria will be closed due to the 50th Anniversary Celebration
• 5/9- ROAD RALLY, 9:30 in the gym

Technology and Your Child Presentation for

·           4^th – 8^th grade parents, Tuesday, May 6^th, 6:30 PM.  

 During this events Drs. Kevin and Natasha Burgert will address the challenges of parenting in the online space.  They will describe sites commonly used by our children, discuss health consequences that arise from unrestricted or unmonitored internet use and finally, suggest practical ways to guide and monitor your child's online life. 

 This presentation was so successful at one of our other independent Kansas City schools that we wanted to make sure it was available for our parents.  Please mark your calendar for one or both of these dates and plan to attend.  It’s important for you and your child.

Sun Safety and Healthy Nutrition – Re-Scheduled for Monday, April 28th, 4:30 PM

 St. Paul’s ECC parent and pediatric dermatologist, Amy Nopper, will provide helpful information about how we can protect our children from the damaging effects of the sun and still be able to enjoy outdoor activities.

Protective and attractive hats with the St. Paul’s logo will be on display for purchase.

Margo Humenczuk, a pediatric nutritionist, from Children’s Mercy Hospital will also be here to share nutrition information and resources to help our students develop lifelong healthy eating habits.
