This week the fourth grade:

• Wrote and shared Grandparent's/Special friend poem
• Reviewed Topic 12 and took a test
• Began a Geometry unit (Topic 16)
• Worked on their Missouri PowerPoint Project
• Continued learning about mass and matter
• Learn about our state seal from a guest speaker, Senator Wilson
• Started writing a story using the mentor text: Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

 
Next week the fourth grade will:

• Take a quiz over mass and matter
• Begin studying force and motion
• Study synonyms, antonyms, and homophones
• Draft their "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" story
• Continue exploring geometry concepts in Topic 16
• Wrap up Missouri Power Point presentations
• Finish fourth quarter book club novels

 Upcoming dates:

• 4/25, 5/2, and 5/9- Fourth quarter book club dates 
• 5/6 Science Test- mass and matter
• 5/9- ROAD RALLY, 9:30 in the gym    (Mrs. Cowan's class needs to wear a red or green shirt, Mrs. Van Maren's class needs to wear a blue or yellow shirt- they do not have to be St. Paul's shirts)
• 5/9- Summer reading book swap (details below)

Summer Reading Book Swap!

Next week students may bring in up to 5 gently used books to participate in the 3^rd annual book swap.  Books will be collected in homerooms Monday-Friday.  On Friday afternoon each class will browse the book collection and students will refresh their reading stash before summer vacation begins!   Please send books that are on or above your child’s grade level to ensure that all students are happy with their new read!

 

Technology and Your Child Presentation for

·           4^th – 8^th grade parents, Tuesday, May 6^th, 6:30 PM.  

 During this events Drs. Kevin and Natasha Burgert will address the challenges of parenting in the online space.  They will describe sites commonly used by our children, discuss health consequences that arise from unrestricted or unmonitored internet use and finally, suggest practical ways to guide and monitor your child's online life. 

 This presentation was so successful at one of our other independent Kansas City schools that we wanted to make sure it was available for our parents.  Please mark your calendar for one or both of these dates and plan to attend.  It’s important for you and your child.
