September 2-5

This week the fourth grade: 

• Began Topic 3 in Math, Place Value Relationships
• Discussed the difference between inferences and observations in science
• Reviewed the four types of sentences
• Utilized reading comprehension strategies, such as making connections and visualizations, while reading The School Story
• Compared and contrasted characters in The School Story
• Finished draft of first writing project: A School Story
• Wrote and punctuated dialogue correctly
• Described the culture of Northeast's people
• Named the states and capitals of the Northeast

Next week we will:

• Continue Topic 3 in Math, Place Value Relationships
• Use a checklist to revise and edit draft of first writing project: A School Story
• Play games and work on projects in preparation of our first social studies test over The Northeast (see date below)
• Begin our Earthworks curriculum and work cooperatively in small groups 
• Identify complete and simple subjects and predicates in sentences
• Review wordly wise activities in preparation for the test on Friday

Fourth Grade Book Clubs

Every quarter students participate in book clubs that are assigned based on interest and reading level.  Students read according to a schedule and journal daily.  On Fridays students participate in a discussion led by a parent about what they have read.  These discussions take place on three Fridays per quarter from 12:30-1:00.  Please send Mrs. Van Maren an email if you are available to host a book club for first quarter.

Quarter 3:  2/13, 2/20, 2/27

Quarter 4:  4/10, 4/17, 4/24
