October 6-10

This week the fourth grade: 
  • Finished reading our book club books!
  • Identified and wrote abbreviations 
  • Finished their Switcheroo Zoo animal adaptation project in class
  • Discussed the relationship among organisms in their ecosystems 
  • Identified the roles of producers, consumers and decomposers in an ecosystem
  • Created food chains and webs to trace the flow of energy in an ecosystem
  • Studied the first Europeans to explore Missouri, including Father Jacques Marquette
  • Continued our study of the Southeast by sorting the natural resources, industries, and agricultural products.
  • Reviewed the states and capitals of the Southeast.
  • Discussed how the people of the Southeast have shaped its culture.
  • Read David Shannon's Duck on a Bike and prewrote for ideas to write our own children's book.
  • Reviewed Topic 4 in math for our test on Thursday
  • Made multiplication flash cards for help with unfamiliar math facts
Next week we will:
  • Learn rules for using a comma correctly in a sentence
  • Being reading The War with Grandpa as a class
  • Take a quiz in science over animal adaptations, producers and consumers
  • Finish food chain project in class
  • Begin learning about the water cycle
  • Explore the people and culture of the Southeast region
  • Publish Southeast region minibooks
  • Review Southeast region concepts in preparation for test
  • Take a test over the Southeast Region
  • Write a narrative rough draft of our own children's book based on David Shannon's Duck on a Bike
  • Attend the Symphony at the Kauffman Center for a Cultural Arts experience
  • Begin Topic 5 in Math:  Multiplying 1-digit numbers
    • Students should be practicing their multiplication facts at home on a daily basis!

  • Thursday 10/23:  Conferences, 12:00 pm-8:00 pm
  • Friday, 10/24:  Conferences, 8:00 am-12:00 pm
  • Friday, 10/31:  Halloween party, 2:30 pm
