November 3-7

This week the fourth grade: 

• Finished reading The War with Grandpa 
• Reviewed correct uses for commas in sentences
• Comma quiz will be Tuesday, November 11th
• Created a project to illustrate parts of the water cycle while incorporating information about weather and air masses
• Applied for four jobs in preparation for our Earthworks field trip
• Finished Topic 1 in Math 
• Topic 1 test will be Wednesday, November 12th
• Published our "Duck on a Bike" writing projects
• Identified natural resources found in the Midwest and the importance of Midwestern farm products
• Discussed the journeys of Lewis and Clark and their impact on Missouri

Next week we will:

• Review the water cycle
• Water cycle and air quiz will be Thursday, November 13th 
• Students have already highlighted their notes to study at home
• Discuss the effects of mining on the land
• Think about the time frame of objects decomposing in the Earth and discuss ways to decrease our amounts of trash
• Begin researching our animals for the Earthworks power point projects
• Begin a holiday poetry unit
• Identify Native American groups that lived in the Midwest and trace the different groups of people who settled in the Midwest
• Show how Midwesterners honor traditions
• Discuss 2nd quarter book club choices
• Begin an independent reading contract
• Take a test on Topic 1 in Math (test is Wednesday, Nov. 12)

• Wednesday, 11/12: Mayor Sly James is coming to St. Paul's! Parents are welcome to join us in the North MPR from 2:15 - 3:00 as 3rd - 5th graders hear Mayor James speak.
• Thursday, 11/13:  Science Club, 7:30 am in Mrs. Van Maren's classroom
• Tuesday, 11/18:  Earthworks field trip, 9:00-2:30.  More information to follow later
• Wednesday, 11/19:  Math Club, 7:30 am in Mrs. Stephenson's classroom
• Wednesday, 11/26-Friday 11/28:  Thanksgiving Break
• Thursday, 12/4:  Christmas Program, 7:00 pm
