January 20-23

Third quarter book clubs are quickly approaching!  If you are interested in hosting a book club this quarter, check your calendars and let us know!  The dates for this quarter are February 13, 20, and 27th.  Book clubs take place from 12:30-1:00.

This week the fourth grade: 
  • Began Topic 8 in Math: Developing Fluency with multiplying 2-digit numbers 
  • Practiced multiplying 2-digit numbers with partial products and the expanded algorithm
  • Researched a volcano in the United States 
  • Identified main, helping, and linking verbs in sentences
  • Continued reading Number the Stars
  • Finished sharing our storybird.com narratives
  • Used our knowledge of verbs to write about our life
  • Began our study of the Western region of the United States
Next week we will:
  • Finish reading Number the Stars
  • Create a project to display research and information about United States volcanoes
  • Build a volcano model 
  • Identify irregular verbs and review subject-verb agreement in sentences
  • Multiply 2-digit numbers using the standard algorithm
  • Publish our verb writing projects, "My Life With Verbs"
  • Explore Missouri's role in the Civil War
  • Study the economy of the Western region, including the influential movie industry
Upcoming dates:
  • Thursday, 1/29:  Math Club, 7:30 am in Mrs. Stephenson's classroom (PLEASE NOTICE THE CHANGE IN DATE)
  • Thursday, 1/29:  Earthquake and volcanoes quiz
  • Wednesday, 2/4:  Verbs test
  • Thursday, 2/5:  Noon dismissal for faculty professional development
  • Friday, 2/6:  The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane at the Coterie, 10:00 am
  • Wednesday, 2/11:  Midquarter
  • Thursday, 2/12: 4th Grade Music Showcase, 7PM
  • Friday, 2/13:  Book clubs, 12:30-1:00, Valentines Day parties 2:30-3:15
    • Students need to bring in a decorated box to hold their valentines.  They should bring valentines for the classmates in their homerooms only.  (20 students in 4S, 21 in 4V.)
  • Monday, 2/16:  No School
  • Thursday 2/19:  Science Club, 7:30 am in Mrs. Van Maren's classroom
  • Friday, 2/20:  Book clubs, 12:30-1:00
  • Wednesday, 2/25:  Math Club, 7:30 am in Mrs. Stephenson's classroom
  • Friday, 2/27:  Book clubs, 12:30-1:00
