November 16-20

This week the fourth grade: 
  • Begin Topic 8 in math and multiply by 2-Digit Numbers
  • Finished reading How to Eat Fried Worms
  • Made a scrapbook with information about the Midwest (the Midwest region test is Tuesday, November 24th)
  • Explored life as a European settler in Missouri and completed a Seesaw activity to summarize what we learned
  • Wrote a rough draft of our Duck on a Bike writing project while paying special attention to the writing trait of "ideas"
  • Continued practice with prepositions and prepositional phrases in sentences 
  • Classified all parts of speech in sentences
  • Identified nouns in sentences and their special jobs as subject nouns and objects of the preposition
  • Participated in a variety of science experiments related to the Earth for our Earthworks experience
  • Took a test over organisms and ecosystems in science on Thursday
Next week and following break we will:
  • Continue practice with two-digit by two-digit multiplication
  • Compare and contrast the book and movie versions of How to Eat Fried Worms
  • Begin second quarter book clubs
  • Edit and revise our Duck on a Bike writing projects
  • Take a test on the Midwest region of the United States
  • Explore Missouri's role in the Louisiana purchase
  • Preview the states and capitals of the Southwest
  • Describe the land, water, and climate of the Southwest region
  • Learn all about Earth's water sources and the water cycle
  • Brainstorm ways we can conserve water
  • Continue practice with classifying parts of speech in sentences with a focus on different types of sentences and pronouns
Second quarter book clubs are quickly approaching.  The dates are December 4th, 11th, and 18th.  Let us know if you would like to lead a book club group for these three dates and we will add you to our list!

  • Wednesday, 12/9:  Science Club, 7:30 am in Mrs. Van Maren's classroom
  • Friday, 12/11:  Book Clubs, 12:30-1:00
  • Tuesday, 12/15:  Math Club, 7:30 am in Mrs. Stephenson's classroom
