November 2 - 6

Our Earthworks field trip is on Tuesday, November 17th.  This year the field trip will take place at school from about 9:30-2:30.  We are in need of a total of 4 parent volunteers to help us on this day.  Please let us know if you are interested in helping us on this date and we will put your name in a hat to draw names.

This week the fourth grade:
  • Began a new class novel, How to Eat Fried Worms
  • Reviewed multiple digit times one digit multiplication and took a test on Friday
  • Studied the land, water, climate, products, and natural resources of the Midwest region of the United States
  • Compared and contrasted the lives of the Missouri and Osage tribes of Native Americans
  • Wrote creatively by choosing prompts from a new BINGO choice sheet
  • Identified physical and behavioral adaptations of animals to help them survive in their environments
  • Created a unique animal on www.switchzoo.com and identified adaptations it has to help it survive
  • Classified parts of sentences focusing on subjects and predicates
  • Created posters for our wordly wise words next week
Next week we will:
  • Continue reading How to Eat Fried Worms
    • Note: This novel has some very impressive vocabulary words! In addition to their daily post-reading activities, be sure to check out the students' daily vocabulary work. This is completed in the classroom.
  • Continue our study of multiplication in math with Topic 7: Multiplying by 2-Digit Numbers
  • Investigate the landmarks and culture of the Midwest
  • Discuss what life was like for the first European settlers in Missouri
  • Continue building our writing skills with the use of wpponline.com
  • Identify prepositions and objects of the preposition in sentences
  • Begin preparations for Earthworks by applying for a scientific job specific to the habitat they will work in
  • Discuss ways ecosystems change over time and how it affects the organisms in those ecosystems
