February 22-26

This week the fourth grade: 
  • Began a research project about volcanoes in the United States
  • Took a test over volcanoes on Thursday
  • Formed contractions with pronouns and verbs
  • Distinguish between using I and me in sentences
  • Began our next novel, The Cricket in Times Square
  • Created a vocabulary book for The Cricket in Times Square to identify unknown words, find definitions, and write sentences using those words
  • Compared and ordered Fractions
  • Researched the history of our state and began the rough draft of our presentation. Our introductions and conclusions are really coming along!
    • Note: This year, students may choose to turn their research into a traditional speech, a poem, or a commercial script. No matter what they choose, all presentations will be about 1 minute long at the 50 States Fair.
  • Viewed a presentation about technology safety by guest pediatricians from Pediatric Associates
Next week we will:
  • Finish volcano power points and share with the class
  • Review different types of pronouns
  • Identify pronouns and homophones including their, they're, there, your, and you're
  • Continue reading The Cricket in Times Square and identifying vocabulary from daily reading passages
  • Wrap up Topic 11 in math and spend time reviewing how to locate fractions on a number line, find equivalent fractions, compare and order fractions
  • Complete a wpponline.com lesson on word choice to help us choose the right word for the job as we draft our 50 States Fair presentations
  • Write the landmarks OR economy section of our 50 States Fair presentation
  • Take a field trip to the Coterie to see a presentation of Tomas and the Library Lady
  • Have a special guest in reading when Ms. Johnson presents a lesson on diversity and Tomas and the Library Lady

  • Wednesday, 3/9:  Science Club, 7:30 am in Mrs. Van Maren's classroom
  • Friday, 3/11:  End of Quarter 3

  • Tuesday, 3/22: Math Club, 7:30 A.M.
  • Friday, 3/25: No School, Good Friday
