This week the fourth grade:
- Identified compound subjects and predicates in sentences
- Wrote an silly sentence using the letters in their first names and identified the subjects and predicates in each
- Continued reading How to Eat Fried Worms
- Took a test over Topic 1 in Math
- Began Topic 2 in math, Generating and Analyzing Patterns
- Discussed the differences between an ecosystem, community, and population
- Identified characteristics of six different biomes in the world to create a flipbook about each
- Continued studying the Northeast Region
- Students' second bingo activity is due on Tuesday September, 17th. Please encourage your child to refer to the bingo sheet in their trapper--they only need to choose one activity from the second row!
- Prepared for a final draft for our Grown Up Rule writing assignment
- Began reviewing for our Social Studies quiz which will be Wednesday September, 18th.
- Begin focusing on correct punctuation in sentences, abbreviations, and quotations
- Generate a number pattern that follows a given rule
- Identify features of a pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself
- Write rules for number and shape patterns
- Learn all about energy in ecosystems
- Create a variety of food chains and food webs and identify their parts
- Finish reading How to Eat Fried Worms
- Meet our preschool buddies!
- Receive our Study Guide for the Social Studies Quiz.
- Finish our final draft for the Grown Up Rule paper.
- Tuesday 9/17: School Picture Day
- Students need to bring their picture pass or order envelope with them in order to receive packages you ordered online. If you prefer to order with the form, students need to bring that to school by Tuesday morning.
- Friday 9/20: Family Fun Fest, ROAD program begins!
- Thursday 9/26: Book Club Parent Training, 3:45 in Mrs. Van Maren's classroom
- Any parents interested in volunteering for first or second book clubs are welcome to come to this informational meeting about our book club procedures. Book club dates will be shared at Curriculum Night.
- Wednesday 9/25: Topic 2 Test in Math
- Friday 9/27: Pet Blessing, Spirit Day
- Friday 10/4: Buddy Run, 9:00 am, First Book Club meeting for students!
- Monday 10/14: NO SCHOOL, Professional Development
- Friday 10/18: End of Quarter 1, Spirit Day
- Thursday 10/24: Conferences, 12:00 pm-8:00 pm
- Friday 10/25: Conferences, 8:00 am-12:00 pm

We have published our Sign up Genius for Fall Conferences as of Friday September 13th. Please contact us as soon as possible if you did not receive the email link to that sign up so we can help you find a time to meet for conferences in late October.

Quarter 4: April 4, 11, and 21. (Note the last meeting in this group will have to meet on a Monday instead of Friday due to Good Friday)
