September 30-October 4

This week the fourth grade: 
  • Identified place value relationships by comparing and ordering numbers
  • Practiced rounding numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand
  • Reviewed abbreviations and capitalization rules
  • Learned how energy flows in an ecosystem
  • Differentiated between producers and three types of consumers
  • Began reading for book clubs and use daily journal writing about what students read in their book
  • Participated in our first book club meeting!
  • Finished their final draft for the Grown Up Rule paper
  • Completed a unit on the Northeast Region 
Next week we will:
  • Begin our unit about the Southeast
    • We have already posted a date below for the Southeast test at the end of the unit.  Please encourage your child to begin studying the states and capitals in advance!  They will receive additional information about the region in class.
  • Learn rules for using commas in sentences
  • Continue reading book club assignments
  • Review Topic 3 in Math
  • Take a test over Topic 3 on Thursday, October 10th.
  • Take a quiz over ecosystems, food chains, and animal adaptations
  • Learn about the water cycle and its role in Earth's atmosphere
  • Practice creative journal writing 
Upcoming dates:
  • Wednesday 10/9:  Science Quiz
  • Thursday 10/10:  First Science Club Meeting, 7:25 am in Mrs. Van Maren's classroom
    • Students must arrive on time to be able to participate in activities
  • Thursday 10/10:  Topic 3 Test, Math
  • Friday 10/11:  Book Club meeting 12:30-1:00
  • Monday 10/14:  NO SCHOOL, Professional Development
  • Thursday 10/17:  First Math Club Meeting, 7:20 am in Mrs. Van Maren's classroom
    • This first meeting is hosted by Mrs. Van Maren since Mrs. Cowan has not yet returned from her maternity leave.
  • Friday 10/18:  End of Quarter 1, Spirit Day, Final Book Club meeting
  • Wednesday 10/23:  Topic 4 Test, Math, Southeast Test
  • Thursday 10/24:  Conferences, 12:00 pm-8:00 pm
  • Friday 10/25:  Conferences, 8:00 am-12:00 pm
