October 28-November 1

This week the fourth grade: 
  • Played Halloween charades with their preschool buddies
  • Began reading The War with Grandpa
  • Practiced making connections and visualizations while reading
  • Played some fun math games to practice their multiplication facts 
  • Multiplied by 10, 100, and their multiples
  • Learned about air masses and how air affects temperature
  • Identified the difference between cold and warm fronts
  • Started learning about the Midwest region
  • Brainstormed ideas for a pros and cons essay
  • Identified common and proper nouns for different letters of the alphabet
  • Practiced math facts on www.ixl.com
    • Students have been given their usernames and passwords so they can continue to practice these facts at home in their spare time.  They understand that this is another resource to help them memorize these facts.
Next week we will:
  • Identify rules for spelling plural nouns
  • Continue reading The War with Grandpa
  • Tackle longer multiplication problems by breaking them apart into smaller facts 
  • Explore the land, water, and climate of the Midwest
  • Identify products and natural resources of the Midwest
  • Investigate properties of soil 
  • Draft and revise their pros and cons essay
  • Find out their Earthworks job assignments
  • Identify types of clouds and their characteristics
Upcoming dates:
  • Tuesday 11/5-11/7:  Book Fair
    • Mrs. Van Maren's class will go Tuesday 11/5 from 2:00-2:40
    • Mrs. Cowan's class will go Wednesday 11/6 from 9:25-10:05
  • Thursday 11/7:  Science Club, 7:25 am in Mrs. Van Maren's classroom
  • Friday 11/8:  NO SCHOOL, Faculty Inservice
  • Tuesday 11/12:  Earthworks Field Trip, 9:00-2:30 
  • Thursday 11/14:  Math Club, 7:25 am in Mrs. Cowan's classroom
  • Friday 11/22:  Spirit Day!
  • Wednesday 11/27-Friday 11/29: Thanksgiving Break
  • Thursday 12/5:  Christmas Program
Other important information:

Second Quarter book club dates are Friday 12/6, 12/13, and 12/20 from 12:30-1:00.  We already have a few parents who have volunteered to host these groups.  Please let us know if you are available to lead a group so we can begin working ahead on arranging these groups and getting information to you in a timely manner.
