January 13-17

This week the fourth grade: 

• Created menus for the Southwest region
• Created a PuppetPals presentation over the Southwest Region
• Identified different types of volcanoes 
• Read about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the city of Pompeii
• Finished Topic 7 in Math
• Identified contractions and practiced using correct subject verb agreement in sentences
• Practiced descriptive writing
• Continued reading Number the Stars

Next week we will:

• Make a volcano model in class to bring home
• Work on a volcano foldable project that describes parts of a volcano and the three types
• Finish up our unit on verbs and begin focusing on adjectives
• Begin Topic 8 in Math, continued practice with two-digit multiplication
• Begin preparing for the Fifty States Fair
• Finish reading Number the Stars

Upcoming dates:

• Monday 1/20:  NO SCHOOL
• Thursday 1/23:  Science Quiz over volcanoes and earthquakes
• Monday 1/27-1/29:  Mrs. Van Maren's conferences after carpool
• Mrs. Cowan's conferences will be at the end of February as regularly scheduled (see below)
• Friday 1/31:  Spirit Day
• Monday 2/3-2/5:  Mrs. Van Maren's conferences after carpool
• Thursday 2/6:  Science Club, 7:25 am in Mrs. Van Maren's classroom
• Friday 2/7:  Book Clubs, 12:30-1:00
• Thursday 2/13:  Math Club, 7:25 am in Mrs. Cowan's classroom
• Friday 2/14:  Book Clubs, Valentine's Day!  Parties to be held at 2:30-3:15 in homerooms
• Students may bring Valentines for their homerooms only.  We ask that you do not write individual names on the Valentines to save time on distribution
• Monday 2/17:  NO SCHOOL
• Friday 2/21:  Book Clubs, Spirit Day
• Thursday 2/27:  Conferences, 12:00-8:00 pm
• Friday 2/28:  Conferences, 7:30 am-12:00 pm

Third quarter book clubs will be on February 7, 14, and 21st.  Let us know if you are  interested in leading a book club group this quarter.
