WE NEED BOOK CLUB VOLUNTEERS!
Our final book clubs will meet in April. If you are interested and available to host our last group of the year, please check your calendars and let us know. The dates will be 4/10, 4/17, and 4/24. The meeting on 4/10 has had to be rescheduled for 2:40-3:10 due to the Literature Festival. The remaining two meetings will still be held at the regular time, 12:30-1:00.This week the fourth grade:
- Reviewed long division and took a test to wrap up the unit
- Began learning about the three types of rocks and how they are formed in Earth's crust
- Participated in a rock cycle simulation to understand how rocks can change over time
- Listened to a guest speaker, Dr. Phil Manning, talk about his experiences as a paleontologist
- Reviewed adjectives and took a test
- Continued reading Sign of the Beaver (4V) and Walt Disney (4S)
- Finished writing the first draft of our state persuasive speeches
- Studied the population and population density of our states
- Begin a unit all about pronouns
- Finish our rock cycle simulations and create a comic strip that illustrates each process
- Continue learning about the three types of rocks
- Create a foldable project about different types of rocks
- Begin Topic 11: Fraction Equivalence and Ordering
- Identify factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers
- Finish Sign of the Beaver (4V) and Walt Disney (4S)
- Complete the final revisions of our state persuasive speeches
- Go on a field trip to the Steamboat Arabia Museum
- Tuesday, 3/31: Field Trip to the Steamboat Arabia Museum in the River Market, 12:00-2:30
- Friday, 4/3: No School, Good Friday
- Wednesday, 4/8: Rocks and Minerals Test
- Thursday, 4/9: Jefferson City Field Trip!
- We will email parents an informational email about this field trip on Monday, 3/30.

Middle, Lower, and ECC Parents:
Meditation Workshop
Tuesday, March 31st 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Adults, being in charge, make rules and guidelines for the well-being of the children. But what about the well-being of the adult? What about yourself? Meditation is a very simple and helpful practice, an adult time out, if you will.
This workshop will include the following regarding practice of meditation:
- Introduction and overview
- Effects regarding health, i.e., stress reduction, improved blood pressure, etc.
- Change of focus from outer chaos to feeling of inner peace
- Improved concentration
- Easy accessibility -- can be done anytime, anywhere
- Different ways of meditating
- Guided meditation of five minutes, to demonstrate the benefit of even a short period of practice
Lower School and ECC Parents:
Becoming a Love and Logic Parent (Wednesday Nights 4-6PM)
Open to anyone interested.
ECC (grades T-K) parents - 4:00-5:40PM
Lower School (grades 1-3) parents - 4:20-6:00PM
$125 / 6 Modules or $25 per individual modules

- March 25th - Module 1 - Four steps to responsibility and preparing children for the real world
- April 1st - Module 2 - Sharing control, opportunities for thinking and decision-making; empathy and consequences
- April 8th - Module 3 - Sharing control through choices, choices you can live with, and parent/child patterns
- April 15th - Module 4 - Parenting styles and guiding children to solve their own problems
- April 29th - Module 5 - Setting limits, thinking words vs. fighting words, and setting enforceable limits
- May 6th - Module 6 - Consequences vs. punishments, using empathy, and constructing logical consequences

Teaching Empathy Through Reading with Your Child
Tuesday, April 21st
Two classes available:
11:45am - 12:15pm
4:00pm - 4:30pm
We read to our children almost every day. Would you like to learn how to use that time to help your child learn empathy? Recognize feelings in others? Express their feelings in an appropriate way?
