April 6-10

Next week we will be taking standardized tests in the morning.  We ask that your child bring a healthy snack to eat during our morning break times.  It is important to encourage your child to get plenty of rest throughout the week.  We will not assign homework this week, but your child will still be responsible for their daily book club assignments, which we will give class time for as well. 

This week the fourth grade: 

• Began fourth quarter book club assignments
• Identified subject and object pronouns
• Identified equivalent fractions and compared fractions on number lines
• Reviewed rocks and minerals and took a test
• Researched and wrote about our state's governor, location, famous people, and interesting facts
• Wrote a letter to a family member inviting them to the State Fair (to be mailed later)
• Completed our Puppet Pals State Attraction projects
• Attended the Rockhurst University Literature Festival!

Next week we will:

• Take the ERB tests
• Students will take these tests in the mornings.  We will be sure not to assign homework except for the daily book club reading assignment and journal entries.
• Continue with fourth quarter book club assignments
• Create a postcard of our state
• Research and write about our state's crops and official rock
• Identify different types of pronouns and use them correctly in sentences

• Friday, 4/17:  Book Clubs
• Wednesday, 4/22:  Grandparents Day, Art Fair
• Friday, 4/24:  Book Clubs
• Tuesday, 4/28: State Float Project Due
• Students were given information about this project in their Monday folders and via email.
• Friday, 5/1: 50 States Fair
• Information about the fair was sent home on Tuesday, 3/24 in your student's Monday folder. Please let us know if you have questions or if you did not receive it.
• Thursday, 5/7:  Jefferson City Field Trip!

Way to go, Fourth Graders!

Last quarter the 4^th grade took the USA-SOS (Safe Online Surfing) Internet challenge (http://www.usa-sos.org).   In this program students take a pretest, then complete 10 scavenger hunts on online safety and cyber citizenship.  After the scavenger hunts, they take a post-test.  The program compares the top ten scores on the post-test with grade level teams throughout the country.  Right now our 4^th grade is sitting in second place nationally! -from Mrs. Willets
