October 1-5

This week the fourth grade: 

• Identified common and proper nouns
• Began their book club journal and participated in their first book club discussion!
• Used a variety of methods to solve 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication problems
• Practiced math concepts on ixl.com
• Studied the products and natural resources of the Western Region
• Began preparing for Earthworks by learning about ecosystems, communities, and populations

Next week students will:

• Identify singular and plural possessive nouns
• Learn about producers, consumers, and decomposers
• Examine food chains in ecosystems
• Continue reading their book club assignments and daily journals
• Review subtraction with regrouping
• Study the culture of the Western region

Other important information:

We are making an effort to contact all parents prior to conferences to check in on your child's progress this year.  If you have not received a positive phone call as of yet, look forward to one next week!  

Cooler weather is approaching!  Please make sure your child comes to school in appropriate clothing for the weather.

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time to host our first book club groups!  The students had a great time discussing their readings with you, and we look forward to many more thoughtful discussions in the next few weeks!  Here are some quotes we recieved from some students when asked about book clubs:

SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS:

Find some great books to online so we can earn free books for our own classroom libraries, and have selections for students to choose free books when they fill out their punch cards.
